Peaceful Adult Medical Day Care Reusable Pad Workshop Experience
By Claire Lee
MyTwoCents was able to hold a workshop at a local Adult Day Care. We held two sessions, morning and afternoon, teaching residents how to make their own reusable pads. Although most of the residents had already entered menopause or did not have the biological ability to menstruate, we held this workshop to raise awareness of the problems disposable pads bring and the attendees were able and encouraged to keep the finished product and use it for their use in regards to urinary incontinence. During this workshop, members were able to introduce our nonprofit and display our mission to a new and different audience in comparison to our Earth Day Event. As the adults sewed together their own ecopads, they were able to utilize the muscles in their hands while working on exercises beneficial to them such as hand-eye coordination and more. Our members got to work together with the residents and were able to converse and show the older generation what our generation is working towards and provide a sense of hope. At first, it was slightly awkward, but as time progressed many memories, conversations, and laughs were shared between us and the residents. We all had a wonderful time and we, as MyTwoCents, were so glad to be able to be a part of spreading awareness and bringing hope and joy into more lives as we continue our journey.
